Scar Treatment Bangalore / Face Scar

A scar is a mark on the skin that remains after a wound or injury heals. Scarring is a normal part of the healing process. Most will fade, but they will never completely vanish. Scars can be as small as a fine line or as large as a pitted hole in the skin, or as an abnormal overgrowth of tissue.

  • Keloid scars – A keloid scar is a tissue overgrowth that occurs when too much collagen is produced at the site of a wound. Even after the wound has healed, the scar continues to grow.
  • Hypertrophic scars – Hypertrophic scars, like keloid scars, are caused by an excess of collagen being produced at the site of a wound. Hypertrophic scars, unlike keloid scars, do not extend beyond the original wound’s boundary.
  • Pitted or sunken scars – Some scars from skin conditions, such as acne and chickenpox, can appear sunken or pitted. Pitted scars, also known as atrophic or “ice-pick” scars, can form as a result of an injury that causes underlying fat to be lost.

If you have a painful, itchy, or unsightly scar, or if it restricts your movement, there are several treatments available. Scars cannot be completely removed, but they can often be made less visible.

Treatment options
1. Scars and skin creams
Although vitamin E cream is sometimes recommended for scar management, there is no medical evidence that it works. However, massaging a moisturiser into the scar will help keep it supple and prevent it from becoming dry. You should also apply sunscreen to your scar because it may be sun sensitive.

2. Silicone gels or sheets
To soften and flatten a scar, silicone gels or sheets can be applied to healing skin (but not open wounds). They can also provide relief from itching and discomfort. To be effective, silicone gels or sheets should be applied to the scar for at least three months, 12 hours a day. They are washable and reusable.

3. Steroids
Steroids cannot completely remove scars, but they can improve their appearance. Some keloid and hypertrophic scars can be treated with corticosteroid injections. To reduce swelling and flatten the scar, it is injected several times. The injections may need to be repeated depending on the type of scar. Injections are typically administered three times, four to six weeks apart, to assess your body’s response. If the scar is improving, treatment may be continued for several months.

4. Dermal fillers
Dermal fillers are injection-able substances that can be used to “plump up” pitted scars. Treatments can be expensive, and the results are usually fleeting. Repeat treatments are required to keep the effect going.

5. Subsicion
This is used in case of pitted scars to release it from it’s attachments below and help create space which can be filled with autologous fat or dermal fillers to bring the scar to normal skin level, this making it less visible .

6. Surgery
Surgery can sometimes be used to improve the appearance of a scar by:
  • making it look more natural
  • making it less visible
Scar reduction surgery is an invasive procedure that may not be appropriate for everyone. Before deciding to have surgery, you should carefully weigh the benefits and drawbacks. Aside from the usual risks of surgery, there is also the possibility of exacerbating the scar. If you’re thinking about scar reduction surgery, make sure your plastic surgeon is fully trained and experienced in this field. Discuss the procedure thoroughly with your surgeon so that you are aware of the risks and expected outcomes.
