Breast Implant Surgery, Bangalore, India
Breast silicon implants are used for increasing the breast size and giving it a good shape. Pregnancy, breastfeeding and massive weight loss can result in both, loss of breast volume and shape. Ageing, too can cause your breasts to lose firmness, resulting in a deflated appearance. This is a common complaint among females. The surgical solution needs to give breast its volume, shape and lift . Breast Augmentation with implants can restore breast volume, shape and to an extent lift it up. However , sometimes an additional Breast lift surgery/ Mastopexy, maybe needed, to create a firmer, ‘perkier’ appearance.
Combining a mastopexy (breast lift) with breast augmentation (breast implants) can result in long-lasting, natural-looking breasts that may boost your self-esteem.
Procedure:
The surgical procedure for breast augmentation surgery includes choosing the right breast implant, the right breast implant placement and the best incision site.
Implant
With a wide range of shapes, surface textures and sizes available, breast implants can be tailored to almost any individual. When deciding on implant your individual body type and aesthetic goals are taken into account. You will be led through an individual assessment process in which measurements will be taken to determine the anatomical limitations and allowances of the breasts, chest and soft tissue. You will also be encouraged to express your likes and dislikes. The use of silicone gel-filled implants is usually recommended because they provide a more natural feel.
There are two shapes in implant, round and teardrop or anatomical shape. The most popular and available shape of implant is round, which makes the breast look spherical after surgery.
Depending on the surface texture, there are three types, smooth, textured and nanotextured. Studies have shown an association of textured implant with breast cancer. So popularly used implants nowadays are the nanotextured and smooth implants. The height of the implant determines the projection of the breast which is mentioned as profile of the implant. One can choose from low, medium and high profile implants depending how much projection is desired.
There are usually lot of doubts and fear concerning implant and it being a foreign body. However, the implants have evolved over time with a lot of research being done. The implants available nowdays are safe and give an aesthetic result.
Implant Placement
Choosing implant placement, like choosing texture and shape, is a balancing act with benefits and drawbacks for each option. There are three common placement options: sub-glandular (above muscle), sub-muscular (under muscle) and dual plane.
Before implant placement is recommended, you will be thoroughly examined based on your individual anatomy, circumstance and desired results.
Incision Site
Scar visibility is determined by the location of the incision, which is usually decided based on personal preference. While you may have your own ideas about scar placement and surgery that you are comfortable with, the surgeon’s recommendations will be based on visibility offered, the amount of control available at a specific incision site and several other factors.
There are three common incisions and the surgeon will recommend the one that will most effectively address your specific goals.
- Infra-mammary fold (crease under the breast): Generally preferred since it effectively conceals the scar. It is the one that is most frequently utilized and offers the surgeon the simplest and safest technique.
- Peri-aerolar (around the pigmented or coloured area of the nipple): This leaves a very little, permanently noticeable scar on the nipple’s border. However, loss of feeling is a typically associated with this minimally noticeable scar.
- Axillae (underarm): This is most commonly used when the implant is placed beneath the muscle, but it can also be used for implants placed above the muscle. There is a higher likelihood of asymmetrical implant placement, riding or descending of the implants and an apparent scar under the arm.
Breast Implant surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Pre operative assessment and essential markings are done, including the incision line. Photographs are taken. It takes 1.5- 2hours.
We commonly employ the infra mammary crease incision due to its various advantages for the patient and the ease with which the implant can be placed. A pocket is then created for the implant, between the breast tissue and the muscle, or behind the large chest muscle under the breast. After placing the implant, the pocket covering is closed and then the skin is sutured close. A small surgical dressing is applied to the wound and left in place until the next post-operative appointment. Adhesive bandages are placed supporting the breasts.
Side effects:
Swelling, bruising, seroma, hematoma, overriding of implant, implant displacement, implant exposure and extrusion, capsular contracture, breast cancer.
Recovery:
Every patient’s recovery is unique. It is normal to feel sluggish or out of sorts for a few days.
- Immediately following the surgery, there is some swelling and bruising.
- You will be discharged with two small surgical tapes (similar to Band-Aids) covering the stitches and the adhesive bandages. They will remain in place until you return on the third day for your post-operative appointment, when the stitches will be examined and all dressings removed. After which you will need to wear sports bra for supporting the breasts.
- When the implants are placed above the muscle, there is only moderate discomfort following the surgery, however when placed beneath the muscle there is stretching and pain. This can be treated with pain relievers.
- It is advisable to sleep on your back for two weeks and avoid any sort of pressure on the breasts.
- The sutures are removed in seven to ten days time. After which scar management is advised.
- Although you will be able to return to work within 24 hours, your breast surgery will take approximately four to six weeks to heal. Swelling and bruising should have subsided by then, and your skin and breast tissues should have changed to accommodate your larger breasts.
Results:
Results are almost immediate. Breast augmentation can provide many years of fullness and improved shape to the breasts. It is often advised and best to have your breast implants checked on a regular basis for signs of leaking, scar tissue formation or other abnormalities that could affect your results.
