Lowerbody Lift

Many people who have successfully lost weight are left with excess skin folds in the lower tummy and back, that will not conform to their new body shape. Not only is loose hanging skin unsightly, but it can also cause functional issues. A Lower Body Lift, also known as Truncoplasty or Belt Lipectomy can remove this excess skin while also lifting the buttocks and possibly contouring the body. This procedure includes an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) as well as skin removal from the hips and back. The pubic area, outer thigh and buttocks are lifted, and excess skin from the abdomen and back is removed. This can lead to a more toned and healthy appearance.

Procedure:
Lower Body Lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia.
Pre operative assessment and essential markings are done, including the incision line. Photographs are taken.
It usually takes 4-6 hours.
The lower body lift procedure begins with the surgeon making an incision around the waist, across the lower abdomen and across the top of the buttocks. The existing navel is repositioned, excess skin on the lower abdomen is removed, the upper abdomen skin is pulled down and joined to the lower fold on the abdomen. Excess skin and fat are also removed from the sides of the hips and the skin over the outer sides of the thighs is tightened, leaving a scar around the hip.
Excess skin and fat in the lower back are removed to lift and tighten the buttocks and thighs and the scar is placed on the upper part of the buttocks, which dips into the cleft, completing the circle of lifted skin. Liposuction is used in conjunction with the lower body lift procedure to improve the shape of the treated area. A buttock flap can also be used to enhance the buttock’s size and shape. Drains are inserted during a lower body lift surgery to prevent the accumulation of fluids and blood within the surgical wounds.

Side effect:
Bruising, swelling, bleeding, hematoma, wound dehiscence

Recovery:
Following your surgery, you will be required to stay in the hospital for a few days. You will be able to leave once the amount of drainage output has decreased and your pain has subsided. This could take a few days.
  • It is advised that you take four to six weeks off work
  • For six weeks, a compression garment must be worn
  • Avoid strenuous physical activities, driving for the first two weeks following lower body lift surgery.
  • Swelling and bruising takes 1- 2 months to subside

Results:
The results of body contouring surgery are immediately visible. However, the final results may take 2-3 months or longer to develop completely. The actual result is permanent if the patient makes every effort to maintain their weight and practices healthy eating habits and exercise. Scars will remain and some body firmness may be lost over time as a result of skin elasticity and the natural ageing process.
