Rhinoplasty Bangalore, India
Rhinoplasty (nose job) is a surgical procedure that alters the shape and size of the nose. Rhinoplasty is frequently combined with septoplasty, and the procedure is referred to as septorhinoplasty. You may wish to undergo a rhinoplasty because you have suffered a trauma to your nose which has left it mis-shapen, or you may naturally have a nose that you feel is too humped, too wide, too long or has a hanging or bulbous tip. Some people dislike the shape of their nostrils because they believe it is too flared or too large. Many people believe that the shape of their nose detracts from their overall appearance, which undermines their confidence and self-image.
To achieve a natural result, rhinoplasty must be an individualised operation that combines detailed knowledge of anatomy and modern technology.
Procedure:
It is performed under general anaesthesia.
Preoperative assessment is done, the essential markings are made on the nose and plan discussed, verified and finalised with the patient. Video consent is taken.
Approximate duration of 2-3 hours, depending on the extent of work needed
Two types of Rhinoplasty techniques are there, open and closed. Closed Rhinoplasty is done in fewer indications only, one popular indication being to correct the dorsum shape. For all other reasons, when multiple parts of the nose are to be addressed, then Open Rhinoplasty is done. Closed Rhinoplasty means the incision to operate is placed inside of the nose. In Open, the incision is placed on the columella of the nose.
Rhinoplasty steps involve smoothening any irregularities in the dorsum, adding height to it, breaking the bones and narrowing them to give a slimmer nose, sometimes cartilage needs to be added and in certain places excess cartilage is removed. The cartilage used is usually from the septum of the nose, however, sometimes if not enough, others sites like ear and rib maybe used.
Silicon implants are also available to increase the height of the nose or give good shape. Sometimes minor dorsal irregularities can be corrected by fillers or fat injections.
Side effects:
Swelling, bruising under eye, nasal stuffiness or mild discomfort/ pain.
The other rare ones include infection, cartilage absorption, asymmetry, unsatisfactory nasal shape.
Recovery:
The initial 24hrs nasal pack is placed, during which it is encouraged to breathe from the mouth. A nasal splint placed after surgery needs to be worn for two weeks or maybe longer if needed. Undereye plasters for the swelling need to be continued for two weeks. The undereye swelling and bruising gradually disappears over two weeks. Sutures removed on sixth day. Timely massage is advised after two weeks and preferably a liquid/ soft diet is advised for the initial two weeks.
Result:
It takes two months for the swelling to resolve and final result to see. Any revision surgery is done after 6 months.
